Fall 2008 ::: NEON APOCALYPSE
This show contains many elements. It began with the idea surrounding the Maya prophecy of 2012, and a trip to the Natural History Museum earlier this year in New York City. Some people believe that the end of the cycle of the Maya calendar in December 2012 will bring widespread catastrophe. To others the Apocalypse does not necessarily mean the end of the world, but possibly the next revelation at the end of an age.
This show is a romanticized vision of the future, as viewed from the super future. Since no one knows what 2012 will bring, we can only wonder. We have displayed an imagined landscape where the complex web of human thought reaches the maximum level of complexity, or the Omega Point. Thus, this new self-reflective universe will bring about greater unification in mankind. Who knows, maybe the Mayans just predicted the Internet.
We present imagined sacred objects that contain the knowledge and secrets of the past, inspired by the Native American pseudo mythology of the thirteen crystal skulls.We often save objects in the hopes of future generations remembering our time on earth.. The Plastic Aztecs have the audacity to dream beyond our generation, to a place none of us will ever know.
